Mutharika not amused with Albino killings in Malawi

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has once again expressed his sadness over continued attacks on people with Albinism in the country.

Mutharika said this on Sunday during the launch of Chiwanja Cha a Yao at M’manga Primary School ground in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Nsamala in Balaka.

The President said his government would not shield anyone involved in the barbaric killing of persons with disabilities.

“This foolishness must stop. How many have been rich in such a way,” said Mutharika.

He added: “My government will not shield anyone involved in the cruel killings of persons with albinism. Anyone found will be sentenced to life imprisonment.

“Let us all work together to end these killings and let us avoid politicizing this issue. Nobody has ever become rich through selling of bones of albino.”

Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (APAM) President Overstone Kondowe has described Mutharika’s statement as empty promise.

“The recycled state assurances of security and empty promises will not end the brutal attacks on persons with albinism in Malawi,” said Kondowe.

Kondowe proposed for a special court to deal with Albino cases in Malawi.
