ZOMBA – Newcomer on the political seen Bester Awali on Thursday trounced incumbent parliamentarian Patricia Nangozo Kainga and former legislator Yunus Mussa to win Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Zomba Central Constituency parliamentary primary elections.
Awali emerged the winner after amassing 723 votes ahead of Mussa’s 527 while Kainga came fourth with 22 votes.
Kainga won the seat in 2014 on People’s Party ticket but early this year she switched sides to increase her chances of returning the seat.
Other contestants namely Meria Douglas received 38 and George Kanyalika had 14.
