Diplomat Frazer Nihorya laid to rest

The body of Malawi’s Consul General to South Africa, Mr. Frazer Nihorya, was laid to rest on Tuesday with military honors at his home village in Mulanje district.

Nihorya died of kidney failure at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre on Saturday night.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Kondwani Nankhumwa who is also Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South represented President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika at the funeral.

The funeral ceremony was also graced by Minister Foreign Affairs and International Relations Emmanuel Fabiano and Deputy Minister of Homeland Security Charles Mchacha who is also DPP Regional Governor for the South.

Writing on his official facebook page Nankhumwa said the country has lost a patriotic Malawian.

“Today we bade farewell to our dear friend and true patriot Fraser Nihorya, who until his death was Malawi Consulate General in South-Africa.

“Dying at only 41, Fraser has left an indelible mark as a selfless and active national servant. His commitment to the cause of Malawi was absolute. Through his death, may we, young people and all, learn that we can stand tall and be counted in this society if we only channel our God-given energy to the selfless serving to the Malawi we all call home,” wrote Nankhumwa.

Nihorya once served as Member of Parliament for Mulanje Limburi from 2009 to 2014 and he also served as Deputy Minister of Finance.

He is survived by a wife and two Children.
