Malawian Muslims living in UK decries effort in curbing albino killings in Malawi

Malawi Muslim Community UK (MAMCO-UK) says is not convinced with the measures taken by authorities and stakeholders in curbing abduction and killings of people with albinism in the country.

Speaking in an interview with the press, Secretary of MAMCO-UK Rodrick Junaid Kalumpha says government and other stakeholders need to step up their efforts in providing security to people with albinism.

“it seems the general public is not concerned about the vice affecting our brothers and sisters with albinism. But it is the responsibility of every Malawian to play a role in curbing this barbaric act.” Kalumpha said.

Kalumpha says the organization has embarked on a fundraising drive aimed at sourcing funds that will be channeled to Association of People with Albinism.

He says so far, his organization has provided funds to APAM aimed at providing safety to the 12-year child of albinism in Dedza whose brother was abducted 2 weeks ago.

“We have actually responded to the request made by APAM towards the cause of providing safety to the child.

“We are also appealing to other organizations to emulate this gesture since the organisation requires funds that may also used in other activities such as economic empowerment.” Kalumpha said.

Cases of abducting and killing of people with Albinism became rampant in Malawi in 2015 and 25 People have so far been killed for what many believe is due to rituals.
