DPP cancels all political rallies in the South due to heavy floods

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa has ordered for the cancellation of all political rallies slated for this coming weekend due to heavy rains.

Nankhumwa said this through a statement posted on his official facebook page seen by faceofmalawi reporter.

“In view of the floods that have hit the southern Region claiming lives of people and loss of property, I write to plead with all DPP officials in the region including sitting and shadow MPs and councillors to cancel all planned political rallies in the region until the situation normalises.

“In turn let us visit the affected households and give them moral support where possible,” Nankhumwa wrote.

He added: “I undertake to join some of you in this noble task.”

Thousands of people have been displaced and a good number of people are reported missing and others feared dead in the southern part of #Malawi due to a heavy downfall of rain that started on 5th March, 2019.
