Two-year-old girl drowns in Ntchisi

A two-year-old girl has died after drowning in Kanenje stream in Ntchisi district, police have confirmed.

The deceased has been identified as Chrishan Edward of Zama village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko.

Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer Gladson M’bumpha said the incident occurred on March 10, 2019.

He said on the fateful day the deceased parents went to attend a funeral ceremony in the same village and left the deceased playing with her friends.

“After sometime, the deceased started following her parents after noticing that her parents are nowhere to be seen without the knowledge of anyone,” M’bumpha said.

“When her mother came back from the funeral she did not find her daughter and they started looking for her upon the search the deceased was found dead Kanenje stream.”

The matter was reported to police who visited the scene and the daughter was taken to Kamsonga Health Centre where postmortem revealed that the girl died due to suffocation.
