MRA to sale confiscated goods if not cleared before March 27

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has threatened to sale all seized goods by auction if not cleared by owners before March 28, 2019, faceofmalawi can reveal.

This has been disclosed in a statement released recently made available to faceofmalawi.

According to the statement, the tax collecting body has engaged Trust Auctioneers and Estate Agents to offload the said assorted items for non-payment of Customs duties.

“The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) says in line with Section 39 (1) of Customs & Excise Act, they have engaged Trust Auctioneers and Estate Agents to sell by public auction assorted items for non-payment of Customs duties.

“The items include motor vehicles, motor cycles, beers, wines and ciders. The auction will be conducted from 28th March to 11th April, 2019 at Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu warehouses and at the following border stations; Mwanza, Songwe, Dedza, Mchinji, Chiponde, Biriwiri and Liwonde,” reads the statement in part.

Added the statement: “Importers whose goods were seized for non-payment of duty should clear them before 28th March, 2019 or else the goods will be sold by public auction. Here is a list of goods and vehicles.”
