Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) President Lazarus Chakwera and Joyce Banda of Peoples Party (PP) have expressed their confidence that they will win the May 21 elections, booting out the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).

The dual was speaking at a rally held at Salima Primary school ground which invited a huge turnout.

Speaking at the rally Chakwera said the country is in bad state and that Malawians are tired with challenges they are facing.

“Malawians are suffering, poverty has reached a crisis level. There are challenges in all sectors,” Chakwera said.

Chakwera further added that MCP’s partnership with PP and Freedom Party of the former vice president Khumbo Kachale is the winning formula and that DPP will be seated out with people’s votes.

“We will work tirelessly to win elections,” he said.

In her remarks Banda said her record at the state house was better than the current administration as she tried in fighting corruption

“When I learnt about looting in government, I acted swiftly and about 70 people were arrested even those working in my administration were prosecuted. Today there is a lot of thieving in government but the looters are being shielded by the current regime,” Banda said.

Speaking on the alliance with MCP, Banda said she consulted chiefs who confirmed and endorsed the alliance.

Meanwhile, analysts have hailed MCP-PP alliance saying it gives MCP a chance of winning the elections while disadvantaging other political parties who will go solo.
