Shoprite round-about truck accident updates: five people sustain serious injuries

At least five people sustained various degrees of injuries following a road accident at Chichiri Round about in Blantyre on March 11, 2019.

The accident occurred at around 10:45 hours and involved four vehicles.

According to preliminary Traffic Police findings at the scene of the accident; a motor vehicle registration number TO 5465 / MH 4225 fleetliner truck which was carrying rice husks and was being driven by Robert Simon Nowah from the direction of Chichiri Independence Arch towards Polytechnic along Chipembere highway.

Upon arrival at Chichiri Round about, it hit from behind a stationary motor vehicle registration number ZA 4389 Mazda Axel saloon which rolled over and hit another motor vehicle registration number PE 2821 Hino Dutro Van which was giving way to vehicles negotiating the said round about before hitting yet another motor vehicle Registration number BT 2911 Mitsubish Pajero station wagon which was coming from the direction of Kwacha round about.

The said truck then hit the Chichiri shopping mall fence.

Five people that sustained injuries include; Ephraim Milimo passenger in moter vehicle Reg. No PE 2821, Miss Prisca Uzamba Chitika and Stella Uzamba Chitika both from motor vehicle Reg. No BT 2811. They sustained severe head injuries and their driver Alfred Mpanje escaped with soft tissue injuries.

The driver of the truck Robert Symon Nowah also sustained soft tissue injuries.

All the casualties were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.

All the vehicles suffered extensive damages.

The police are working on the matter to establish the cause of the accident.
