Nurses at Ntcheu District Hospital down tools

Nurses and clinicians at Ntcheu District Hospital have downed tools to force authorities to pay them locum and upkeep allowances the hospital owes them.

The development comes barely two weeks after unemployed nurses and midwifery working on part time also down tools forcing the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) under President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to employ them.

An eyewitness who rushed to the scene confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the development has greatly affected patients.

According to eyewitness, patients were seen left unattended to and some were seen return to their homes.

One of the concerned health workers found at the hospital said that have not been paid for close to four months now.

Effort to talk to Ntcheu District Hospital top officials proved futile.
