State Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima who is also leader of United Transformation Movement (UTM) on Sunday joined thousands of catholic faithful at St. Pius x Parish in the Archdiocese of Blantyre to celebrate Palm Sunday.
This is the day Jesus Christ triumphantly entered Jerusalem on a donkey just a few days before His crucifixion, as recorded in Matthew 21:1-11.
The congregants started the parade while carrying palm blanches at Njamba Freedom Park in the commercial capital Blantyre and the parade started with a mass presided over by Father George Vein Kaliati.
Speaking to the crowd Chilima urged them to observe Palm Sunday as a key element of their preparation towards the commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary.
Earlier in his homily, the parish priest Fr George Vein Kaliati also urged the congregants to handle themselves when in difficult moments.
“As we are entering Holy Week, We Christians need to know how to handle ourselves when in difficult moments,” he said.
He said Jesus is a good example because he handled such moments in his life.
The Palm Sunday was also held in many churches across the country marking the beginning of the Holy Week.
