Mtambo condemns DPP cadets for vandalizing MCP billboard in Blantyre

Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Chairperson Timothy Mtambo has condemned Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets for vandalizing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) billboard bearing the face of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, describing the act as barbaric.

The DPP cadets on the wee hours of Thursday vandalized MCP billboard erected at Kwacha roundabout close to Robins Park.

The cadets also uprooted flags of MCP, United Transformation Movement (UTM) and United Democratic Front (UDF) in Limbe Township.

Writing on his official facebook page, Mtambo questioned the silence of the police and the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

“This savagery is unacceptable , this is not what we bargained for when we voted for democracy. It seems the DPP cadets have become so powerful than the police and anyone. They have done a lot of nasty things to this country but no one has been held accountable.

“SAD!!! Malawi police and MEC where are??? We demand accountability now! Our message to DPP cadets is that this stupid and barbaric behavior will not take them anywhere, no one is bigger than Justice and very soon JUSTICE will catch up with you. God loves this country so much…. Stop fooling yourselves,” wrote Mtambo.

Concurring with Mtambo’s remarks, MCP Spokesperson Eisenhower Mkaka described the DPP cadets act as pure provocation.

“DPP iyi ndi nkhondo mukuiyambayi! This is pure provocation,” wrote Mkaka.

Meanwhile DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi is asked for more time when asked for comment.
