28-year-old Nairobi man Drinks 5 litres of poison after HIV test

A 28-year-old man has committed suicide in Embakasi estate, Nairobi, after he learned of his HIV status.

Meshack Henry Odhiambo died of overdose after he consumed five litres of diluted pesticide, 50mg of insecticide and 60 ARV tablets that he was meant to take for the next 30 days.

According to Mbagathi Hospital documents, Odhiambo resorted to cut short his life a few minutes after he walked out of the facility where he had gone for HIV test that returned positive results.

“He was just fine; in good health, save for some persistent cough which he had about two weeks before he took his life,” a family member told local press.

“He went to the hospital for check up, they did a TB test and HIV and unfortunately, the results came out positive. When he came back home, he took the poison,” one of the deceased’s friend added.

“I’ve never known him as a philandrous person for the entire time he lived here, I’ve only seen one lady, whom I suspected was his girlfriend,” Odhiambo’s neighbour narrated
