Chakwera to reshuffle working hours

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has promised to move working hours from current 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM once voted into power in the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election.

Chakwera made the remarks during the rally held at Njamba Freedom Park in the commercial capital Blantyre on Sunday.

According to Chakwera, the reshuffle would be done to help people to have time to do their business such as dropping kids to school before going to work.

“I will change the working hours from 7:30 to 8:30. This will be a deliberate move to give you time so that you can drop Children to school and report to work on time,” said Chakwera.

Professor Mustafa Hussein said the idea is viable and MCP can do it like other countries.

“I think it is viable as long as people are serious on their work ethics. What is important is putting in place mechanisms that will enable people to contribute in productivity of the nation,” said Hussen in an interview with press.

Other countries in Africa such as South Africa, Mozambique, Uganda and Zambia are using the 8:30am time as reporting time for duties for employees.
