Blantyre First Grade Magistrate Court has granted bail to Tumpale Mwakibinga who likened the country’s first Lady Gertrude Mutharika to cartoon character Rango.

Mwakibinga was arrested on Tuesday by the Ndirande Police and was charged with three counts; insulting the modesty of a woman.

The second charge is cyber harassment contrary to Section 86 of the Electronic Transaction Act and the third is obscene communication contrary to Section 87 of the Electronic Transaction Act.

Mwakibinga pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him on Wednesday and the case was adjourned to today (Thursday).

First Grade Magistrate Tsoka Banda has since granted bail to Mwakibinga upon paying a non-cash bond of K100,000.

Magistrate Banda has also ordered Mwakibinga not to post anything on social media relating to Madam Gertrude Mutharika.

Apart from these, the accused has also been ordered to report to Southern Region Police offices once a month and should also provide one person as a surety.

Meanwhile the case has been adjourned to May 31, 2019.
