Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 33-year-old man on allegations that he killed his 39 year-old wife.
The suspect is Malijana Thamson of Kavwenje Village while the deceased is Rose Kamuikeni of Kamkuwazi Village, both from the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi.
The incident happened on Sunday at Kamkuwazi Village.
The suspect married the deceased and found her with four children. The elder daughter was proposed for marriage and got prepared for the wedding.
When the suspect was told about the wedding, he refused and cancelled it on April 25, 2019.
The deceased was not pleased with the cancellation.
The deceased told the suspect that she knew he was cancelling the ceremony because the girl is his stepdaughter and not his biological daughter.
This did not please the suspect and he became angry since he has raised the children from 2013.
A fight erupted and when the elder daughter heard of the fight, she went to the house and found her mother in tears.
The daughter was chased by telling her that she was not worth to intervene on family issues of her mother.
The following morning, the deceased went to attend a church meeting at a neighbouring village on Sunday April 28 2019. While there, the deceased collapsed and died on the spot.
A postmortem revealed that death was due to internal bleeding after being beaten.
The suspect will appear before court soon to answer a charges of murder.
