DPP cadets beat up Catholic Priest Father Tengani in Thyolo: ‘Nsanja igwera Chimulirenji’

Suspected Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) youth cadets on Thursday mercilessly beat up a catholic Priest for taking photos of a collapsing rally stage that accommodated the party’s runningmate Everton Chimulirenji.

The incident happened at Folopesi Primary School Ground where Chimulirenji and DPP governor for the South Charles Mchacha were hold a campaign rally ahead of the forthcoming May 21 tripartite election.

The fact of the matter is that a podium accommodating Chimulirenji and Mchacha and other DPP officials collapsed injuring over five people as the rally was in progress.

The development caused panic as others were running for their lives and the Catholic Priest instead of escaping he started taking photos of the podium.

The priest, Father Tengani of St Mary’s Parish under Chikhwawa diocese, was unceremoniously dragged out of the crowd by the DPP youth who took his mobile phone and never returned it.

The police rescued the priest from angry DPP cadets.

St Mary’s Parish Council Chairperson, Peter Kapinji has confirmed of the development in an interview with the press, saying the cadets indeed attacked the priest.

According to Kapinji, the cell phone of Father Tengani is yet to be traced at the moment.

Some police officials who witnessed the barbaric act by some DPP cadets confirmed of the development but asked this reporter not to mention their names.

Effort to talk to DPP spokesperson Nicholas Dausi proved futile on the matter.
