Mary Chilima Inspires University Students, Campaigns for UTM

Mary Chilima, a wife to United Transformation Movement (UTM) president Saulos Chilima on Tuesday inspired Malawi university students in Blantyre during a ‘Success Talk’.

Mary, met the students’ at Noel Masangwi’s office near Robins Park.

The event followed an invitation made by sourthen region university students’.

 The students also gave Mary a chance to share visions UTM is carrying towards university students once the party is elected into power in next week’s tripartite elections.

Mary, who is also championing some youth activities in UTM, highlighted some of the important issues that are affecting university students across the country.

She told the students that it is only UTM that has welfare of students at heart citing that it is the only party that has vision to improve the well-being of university students in the country.

“We are here to share solutions to various problems that you students face,” Mary said.

She added that she knows the challenges university students face as she once was a university student.

“I have been a university student before and I know what you go through,” she said.

She added; “UTM is promising to give you enough funds for the needy students, this system will be highly monitored so that only the deserving ones will be getting to access to special funds.”

On the issue of information among students, Mary said UTM government will provide laptops and reduce internet prices.

“We also intend to give laptops as well as reducing price of internet to ensure that information is reachable and as one way of achieving the distant learning programs that are UTM manifesto,” she said.

In his remarks Gift Chipanda, polytechnic student asked Mary Chilima to take seriously in helping the needy students citing that a lot have fallen victims as the beneficiaries of such programs are children of the few rich people.

Christian Chikalimba a final year student at Malawi College of Accountancy urged fellow student to vote for UTM for a better Malawi.

Mary pleaded with the students to consider UTM as the polling day is drawing closer citing that UTM is the only party that is promising deliverable policies compared to other parties.
