MLS Joins Electoral Case

Malawi Law Society has joined the electoral case at high court in Lilongwe as an interested party.

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has taken the electoral body Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to court to force the body not to release presidential election results.

MCP placed the injunction following anomalies that were found during the May 21 elections.

MCP has further asked MEC to clean up these anomalies before releasing the presidential results.

MLS lawyers on Sunday joined the hearing of the case along with MEC and MCP lawyers.

One of the lawyers who attended the hearing said they attended the case as an interested Party.

“We attended the court hearing as an interested party,” said Kaukonde.

MCP believes that Democratic progressive Party (DPP) doctored the presidential results in favor to their side.

MCP further argued that the number of votes cast out numbered the number of registered voters in Lower Shire and the Lhomwe belt.
