Police officers fire teargas at MCP headquarters in Lilongwe: US Ambassador, Chakwera victimized

Commotion has erupted at Malawi Congress Party (MCP) headquarters in the capital Lilongwe as police fire teargas cannisters to disperse supporters of the opposition party.

It’s understood that at the time the police fired teargas into the head office, MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera was inside meeting US Ambassador Virginia Palmer.

MCP MP Sam Dalitso Kawale confirmed of the development in a statement posted on his official facebook page.

“The MCP President and USA ambassador have just been teargassed inside MCP HQ,” wrote Kawale.

In a related development, Police in Mchinji have fired teargas at protesters along the Mchinji Road but the protesters are not relenting.
