Mulanje Chiefs Participate in Post-Election Demonstrations

Some Mulanje chiefs who were not satisfied with the parliamentary results in the district joined angry voters in demonstrating.

Confirming the development some chiefs who took part in the demonstrations said they also voted hence they have the right to protest against the outcomes.

Disagreeing with the angry chiefs, Senior chief Nkanda and Traditional Authority Njema said chiefs are not supposed to be prejudice and should not involve themselves into politics.

Senior chief Nkanda has meanwhile suspended three group village heads over the matter.

 “I have suspended three group village heads after confirming myself that they participated in demonstrations,” said Senior Chief Nkanda.

On his part, Traditional Authority Njema said he has issued warning to six chiefs who took part in demonstrations and has threatened to dethrone chiefs who will found participating in demonstrations.

“Last week I summoned six village heads to my headquarters and I warned them against participating in demonstrations. If they do not take heed, I will dethrone them,” said T/A Njema.

Following May 21 polls a lot of people are demonstrating as one way of showing their dissatisfactory with the polls results.
