COURT DISMISSES KABWIRA’S PETITION

Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda has dismissed a petition in which Jessie Kabwira wanted the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) to conduct a re-run in her constituency.

Kabwira cited several irregularities necessitating the re-run. However, Justice Nyirenda observed that Kabwira’s petition lacked enough evidence of the mentioned irregularities.

“I have read and re-read the Petition and the sworn statement in support thereof in support of the Commission confirming or rejecting the existence of an irregularity’ but my search has been in vain.” Justice Kenyatta Nyirenda said

Kabwira lost her constituency to Enock Phale of Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
