Central region chiefs have condemned the violence perpetrated by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) after the announcement of presidential results which showed that President Professor Peter Mutharika was the winner.
The chiefs have distanced themselves from the MCP violence. Chairperson of the Chiefs, Senior Chief Kaomba says MCP cannot claim to be Chewa nor Chewa to be MCP.

Senior Chief Nthondo of Ntchisi said Malawi is rich in peace and tolerance hence the need to nurture the same.
The chiefs were speaking at a news conference in Lilongwe on Thursday.
The chiefs came from Lilongwe, Ntchisi, Dedza, Mchinji, Salima, Nkhotakota, Kasungu
Senior Chief Mwansambo of Nkhotakota: “Malawi is known as a God fearing nation at the same time it is the Warm Heart of Africa and as such the country should strive to be such though peace.”
Senior Chief Makwangwala said demonstrations retard development as people can’t go to business, work and children can’t go to school.
