Malawi International Trade Fair Postponed

Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has postponed the Malawi International Trade fair.

The trade fair was scheduled to take place from June 20 to 30 under the theme ‘achieving competitiveness through integration into regional value chains.

The postponement comes after five countries pulled out due to political uncertainty in the country.

Due to political tension prevailing in the country following the May 21 presidential elections results which the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) claim were manipulated in favor of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Peter Mutharika, China, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia had pulled out leaving Zimbabwe.

According to MCCI, participation of international exhibitors is the key to the function.

“Being an international trade fair, participation of international exhibitors is key at the MITF,” said MCCI.

Meanwhile, MCCI said it hopes by August, the political uncertainty and tension would have been cleared.

Currently, Malawi is into post-elections political instability following disputed May 21 polls.
