Malawi Police Hunts Unknown Woman over Foetus Found Dumped in Dwanga River

Police at Nkhunga in Nkhotakota are hunting for unknown female person who aborted and threw a foetus into Dwangwa river.

Nkhunga Police Station Public relations officer, Ignatius Esau said the foetus was discovered floating dead on Tuesday afternoon by women who had gone to fetch water at the said river.

“They rushed and alerted their local chief who later informed police. When police and medical personnel arrived at the scene, they confirmed that it was really an aborted human foetus,”said Esau.

Blood stained cotton wool and some fresh blood drops were also observed along the river bank.

Police who have since ordered for burial are calling upon well wishers to feed them with information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrator.

Once arrested, suspect will be charged with killing of unborn child that contravenes section 131 of the penal code.
