MANEB says June 20 demonstrations will not disrupt MSCE exams

The Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) has said the national wide protest slated for Thursday June 20, 2019 will not disrupt the ongoing Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations that have commenced today across the country.

Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) with this coming Thursday hold national wide protest to force Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah to resign for failing to proper handle the May 21 tripartite election.

Malawians are accusing Ansah of conniving with the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to rig the just ended May 21 polls.

The planned protest has caused fear among students who are sitting for this year’s exams with many planning to stay away from the exams.

But MANEB Public Relations Officer Mayamiko Chiwaya has blushed off the fears, saying the demonstrations will not affect the exams.

“The demonstrations won’t affect the examinations in any way; you can be assured about safety and security of candidates which will be provided.

“Government has through the Malawi Police Service taken all necessary measures to protect those sitting for this year’s MSCE examinations, so there shouldn’t be any reason for panic,” Chiwaya said.

Over 96 300 candidates are expected to sit for Malawi Schools’ Certificate of Education examinations this year.
