Standard Bank Donates Learning Materials Worth K4 Million

In a quest to help government in improving education standards in the country, Standard Bank has donated learning materials to National Reading Program (NRP) worth K4  million at Mponela 2 Primary School in Dowa District.

Speaking during the donation the bank’s chief financial officer, Temwanani Simwaka said Standard Bank will continue being committed in collaborating with Malawi Government to ensure that quality of education is improved.

According to Simwaka, for any society to develop learning must be easy and accessible through availability of resources citing that reading is a major component.

“Standard Bank affirms its commitment to the selected district that would benefit from this donation reading being a critical component for an all-round education we saw a need to support this intervention,” Simwaka said.

He added that supporting education is the only key to develop communities and societies.

“Supporting Education is a key to ensuring that we have an impact in our community thereby driving the growth and development of our society,” he said.

The program which will run up to 2020, is expected to benefit over 6 million learners from standard 1 to 4 and will at the same time will improve the reading instructional skills of well over 50, 000 teachers who teach the targeted classes.

Director of Basic Education in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Josam Mafuta commended Standard Bank citing that the donation is timely.
