HRDC Responds to Nankhumwa ‘Freeing MEC from Ansah is the best Mediation’

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) under the banner Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) have responded to the call made by Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) sourthen region Kondwani Nankhumwa that the best dialogue is for Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah to resign.

During a victory celebration rally for DPP Nankhumwa said he is ready to have talks with Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president and United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima.

However, HRDC through its vice chair Gift Trapence said they will not relent until they see Ansah fall.

“HRDC does not need any offer apart from freeing MEC from Jane Ansah capture,” said Trapence.

The Human Rights grouping further maintained its stand of holding nationwide demonstrations for three consecutive weeks until Ansah resigns.

HRDC and other stakeholders are calling for Ansah’s resignation as she is being accused of mismanaging May 21 tripartite elections.
