‘We Say No to Manipulative Dialogue’ – HRDC

Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has said it is ready for dialogue of good course and manipulative dialogue.

HRDC chairperson Timothy Mtambo pointed out during a press briefing held yesterday in Lilongwe.

“We are not against dialogue, we are ready for it, but what we are against is manipulative dialogue.” Said Mtambo.

Following the ongoing Anti-Ansah Demonstrations in the country, a number of stakeholders have been calling on HRDC to ease fire and node to dialogue.

During Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) victory match at Nyambadwe primary school ground in Blantyre DPP vice president responsible for the Southern region Kondwani Nankhumwa, said he is ready to have talks with all the concerned parties with the outcome of May 21 presidential vote results as one way of ending the political impasse that is happening in the country.

Meanwhile, the former head of state Bakili Muluzi has also called HRDC to discuss on the ongoing matter, so as Malawi Human Rights Committee (MHRC).

However, Mtambo has said they will not relent as the Demonstrations are for the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson.

“Demonstrations are for Jane Ansah, if she is going to resign, that will be the end of demonstrations,” he assured.

Despite the calls for her resignation, the judge of the Supreme Court has vowed not to step down until the court rules out that the elections had irregularities.

Ansah is being accused of mismanaging 21 elections as she allegedly declared President Peter Mutharika of DPP a winner of the disputed elections.
