Concerned Mangochi Residents Call for Immediate Release of Two MCP Officials

A grouping of people calling themselves concerned residents of Mangochi district have given the police 24 hours to release two Malawi Congress Party (MCP) officials that were arrested on Tuesday night.

The group’s representative, Oliver Tayub said this during a press briefing held late yesterday.

On Tuesday night police arrested Hassan Anusa who was an MCP candidate for Mangochi central constituency in the May 21 polls and Awilo Mkuwu, MCP director of youth in the district, for allegedly insulting the current Member of Parliament for Mangochi Central, Victoria Kingstone of the DPP.

The two were on the same night taken by police to Zomba.

The group is threatening to hold vigils at Kingstone’s residence if the two are not released.
