LUANAR students in violent protest over fee hike

Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR) students have gone on rampage protesting management decision to hike tuition fees, faceofmalawi can reveal.

The students are demonstrating against a fee hike from K362, 500 to K420 000 for generic students, arguing many cannot afford the new rate.

The students decorated Mitundu road with burning tyres, stones and tree branches, according to an eyewitness who rushed to the scene.

It took the intervention of the armed police who fired teargas to disperse angry students and later cleared the road.

The situation is still tense at LUANAR campus.
