583 children were defiled in the second quarter of 2019

ZAMBIA – Five hundred eighty three (583) children countrywide were defiled in the second quarter of 2019, Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo has said.

And Katongo said Lusaka province recorded the highest number of child defilement cases with 250 cases while Luapula recorded the lowest with eight cases only.

And Katongo said the 145 cases of rape and 19 attempted rape cases were recorded during the period under review.

In a statement, Katongo said the country also recorded 46 cases of indecent Assault, and 20 GBV related murder cases.

She said during the same period under review, 1,756 cases of Assault OABH were recorded countrywide with Lusaka province again recording the highest number.

Katongo further revealed that a further 11 cases of human trafficking were recorded during the same period.
