The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has assured exhibitors, patrons visiting the pavilions and the public of maximum safety and security measures during the 31st Trade Fair to be opened on Thursday August 8 at Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre.

The fair was cancelled last month citing political tension in the country which forced most participating countries to withdraw their participation for their safety reasons.

MCCI head of communications, Millie Kasunda said the fair will run up to August 15 under the theme “Achieving Competitiveness through Integration into Regional Value Chains”.

She further said the safety measures have been put in place to secure both the people’s lives and their exhibits during the entire fair.

“The fair will involve a networking dinner on August 8 at Mount Soche Hotel from 6:30 pm. This is another platform to establish business partnerships over a scrumptious meal. A platform which offers an opportunity for the business community to interface with decision makers.

“The second part is the B2B meetings which will give businesses an opportunity to generate new leads, convert existing ones and build strong relationships. Meet with prospects and customers to create, maintain and develop professional collaborations,” she said.

The fair will also provide an opportunity for business captains, investors and people wishing to venture into business with new information on business opportunities through the workshops and seminars.

There has been political unrest in the country following the announcement of results of the May 21 tripartite polls, which some opposition parties are challenging.

The Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has also been at the helm of mass protests across the country calling for the resignation of Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson Jane Ansah.

Some protestors have capitalised on the demonstrations by destroying other people’s property including smashing shops and looting.
