Machinga Police Arrests Two For Attempting To Sell Leprosy Survivor’s Blood

Police in Machinga district have arrested two men on allegations that they planned to get blood from a person who survived from leprosy and sell it to a Mozambican herbalist for money multiplication rituals.

Eastern region police public relations officer, Inspector Joseph Sauka, said the suspects, Ikira Kabudula (42) and Imran Adam (36), connived to convince James Chikwenga from Chapusa Village who once suffered from leprosy, to provide them with his blood and promised him that he will survive.

Inspector Sauka said Investigations by police revealed that in 2017, one of the suspects, Ikira Kabudula, went to Luchinga in Mozambique for piece works and while there, he met the herbalist who was looking for a Malawian leprosy survivor’s blood.

“When Kabudula came back to Malawi he connived with Adam and went to the victim, on August 19, 2019, where they coaxed the victim to accompany them to Mozambique to sell the herbalist his blood.” Inspector Sauka said

He further said although the issue aroused fear in the victim, but he (victim) assured the suspects that he will join them to the herbalist and asked them to come the following day.

The victim then reported the matter to Police who ambushed the suspects and arrested them.

The two suspects are expected to appear before court soon to answer charges of conduct likely to cause breach of peace which is contrary to section 181 of the penal code.

Ikira Kawinga, hails from Jalifu village while Imran Adam hails from Chitundu village both from the area of T/A Kawinga in Machinga district.
