Chinsinga Tips Journalist On Parliamentary Reporting

A Chancellor College based political science lecturer, professor Blessings Chinsinga has asked journalists who report on parliamentary proceedings to develop expertise on how to make parliamentary reporting effective.

Professor Chinsinga made the call on Sunday at the closure of a two-day training for parliamentary reporters organized by Malawi Parliament in partnership with African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP).

Professor Chinsinga said journalists have a greater role in making sure that Malawians have access to information from parliament.

Chinsinga said access to information is vital in the development of the country.

Director of Public Policy and Communication at AFIDEP, Rose Oronje concurred with Professor Chinsinga saying effective reporting on parliament would help the majority populace to understand roles of parliament and how polices and laws are made.

Oroje said that as one of encouraging journalists to report more on parliament, AFIDEP will soon introduce a prestigious media award for outstanding journalists on parliamentary beat.
