UTM condemns shoot-to-kill policy introduced by newly appointed IG Duncan Mwapasa on demonstrators

United Transformation Movement (UTM) has condemned the shoot-to-kill policy allegedly introduced by the newly appointed Acting Inspector General of Police Duncan Mwapasa to silence Malawians planning to hold national wide protest aimed at forcing Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Dr. Jane Ansah to resign.

Since the outcome of the May 21 tripartite election, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) under the banner of the Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) has been holding series of demonstrations aimed at pressurizing President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to fire Ansah.

The CSOs are accusing Ansah of failing to manage the May 21 tripartite hence forcing her immediate resignation.

Most of the demonstrations organized by HRDC have been marred by violence. The development has forced the newly appointed IG to secretely introduce shoot-to-kill policy, according to inside sources.

But UTM Publicity Secretary Joseph Chidanti Malunga condemned the use of force on unarmed Malawians, saying this is unconstitutional.
