Women vendors in the commercial capital Blantyre on Monday went on rampage demanding their share of the money President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika splashed to chairman of Blantyre Market, faceofmalawi can reveal.

President Mutharika last week visited Blantyre Market after touring some development projects currently underway in the Southern Region.

Mutharika also bought some assorted items namely;Irish potatoes, fish, vegetables and others. The President also met some market top officials where he splashed cash amounting to MK14 million meant for all vendors plying trade in the free market.

But instead of sharing the said money, the chairman of Blantyre free market kept the money for his personal use.

The development angered the women vendors who ganged up and went to the street to express their anger over the matter.

The women vendors blocked the road with tree branches and burning tyres causing traffic-jam.
