HRDC, NOCMA Meet Ahead of Anti-Ansah Demos

Organizers of Anti-Ansah demonstrations, Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) and Official from National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) are currently holding a  meeting in Lilongwe ahead of the upcoming demonstrations.

The meeting is dwelt much on the fears raised by NOCMA saying they might affect fuel tankers in transit, on the roads of Malawi as well as oil installation.

However, HRDC has assured NOCMA that measures are in place to avoid any acts of violence during and after the demonstrations.

HRDC has been organizing protests which are said to be peaceful but always they turn out to be violent.

During the first phase of the Anti-Ansah mass protest a lot public and private properties were vandalized including injuring people.

HRDC official and other stakeholders are calling for resignation of Malawi electoral commission Chairperson Jane Ansah for allegedly mismanaging May 21 tripartite elections.

However, Ansah has remained adamant saying she cannot resign sentiments carrying support from the disputed winner of the controversial Elections President Peter Mutharika who said she cannot fire Ansah.

Meanwhile, United Transformation Movement (UTM) leader Saulos Chilima and his counterpart Lazarus Chakwera of Malawi Congress Party (MCP) are seeking nullification of the presidential results in court.
