Nankhumwa suspends 75% penalty on Tobacco farmers exceeding quotas

Minister of Agriculture Kondwani Nankhumwa has announced the suspension of the 75% penalty on tobacco sold outside individual quotas.
The development comes barely three days after Tobacco farmers stormed Tobacco Commission head office in Lilongwe to express their anger over some newly-introduced law.
The farmers were demanding for the commission to reverse its decision to effect 75% penalty on tobacco sold outside individual quotas.
On the wee hours of Sunday, unknown people suspected to be farmers petrol-bombed TC vehicle in the capital Lilongwe.
The development forced Minister of Agriculture Kondwani Nankhumwa to call for a meeting with disgruntled farmers over the matter.
After hearing from farmers, Nankhumwa announced the suspension of the penalty attracting ululation from the farmers.
