Billy Mayaya hacked during anti-Ansah demo fracas in Blantyre

Member of the Human Right Defenders Coalition (HRDC) Billy Mayaya has been severely hacked in the fracas that ensued between DPP supporters and HRDC demonstrators as they were marching along the Chipembere Highway.

Moses Kunkuyu, Campaign director for MCP, has confirmed of the development and says Mayaya has since been taken to the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital for treatment.

One CID from Southern Region Police, who opted for anonymity, said Mayaya has been “severely hacked.”

Teargas has also been fired at the demonstrators.
