BT Police Arrests Person with albinism for making false claims

BLANTYRE – Manase Police Post in Blantyre on Sunday apprehended a 42- year-old person with albinism, Jamu Chidaya for conducting himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

Blantyre Police Station public relations officer, Augustus Nkhwazi said on Tuesday in Blantyre that a report made to the Police by a butcher at Manyowe Trading Centre, Charles Golden who sells pork, indicates that the suspect has been collect pork on credit but often times  could not pay back.

“According to the butcher, on September 14, 2019, Chidaya visited him and made same request to have some meat on credit and when Golden  tried to reason and remind him of previous bills that he owes him, the suspect started threatening that he would report the butcher to authorities for wanting to sell him,” he said.

Nkhwazi added that the butcherman referred the matter to Manyowe market chairperson who advised him to take up the issue with Manase Police.

“The Police instituted a man-hunt and apprehended the suspect and locked him up in cell,” he said.

Nkhwazi has since assured the public that it would not shield anyone found in conflict with the law regardless of their status in society.

“In this matter, the suspect wanted to use his condition [albinism] to offend others. There is no person who is above the law,” the PRO stated.

He Chidaya woukd appear in court soon to answer charges of conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Chidaya hails from Pensulo Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Somba in Blantyre.
