Lake of Stars Country Coordinator Yolanda Ng’oma said this year’s Lake of Stars Discovery followed the tradition of attracting overseas visitors to travel to Malawi and experience the beauty and culture of the warm heart of Africa, whilst providing much needed forex.

“We are proud to be part of an extraordinary experience that promotes our beautiful country and diverse culture while creating opportunities for artists, youth, communities and a future of sustainable tourism,” Ng’oma said.

The festival also saw rising Stars from Malawi and the region wowing the crowds.

Lake of Stars Head of Media, PR and Marketing Zilanie Gondwe said giving a platform to rising Stars was one of the core objectives of Lake of Stars Discovery.

“As we have been saying from the very beginning since we celebrated and introduced the new concept to the media, LoS Discovery allows us to rediscover, reexamine and give a platform to as many as young artists in Malawi, the region and wider.

“Hence, you have seen artists like Eli Njuchi, Praise Umali and The King’s Riffle performing at LoS for the first time. These are some of the artists we have seen their music growing on different platforms and programs that we admire and support.

“And also from the region, we had Amanda Black, Lioness and Lumba from Zambia. These are the rising artists who blew everybody away at the festival,” Gondwe said.

In his remarks, King Kananji of The King’s Riffle described the group’s journey as a roller coaster.

“It’s been a roller coaster really. We released our debut albu Love and Revolution on 20th May and four months later we are performing at Lake of Stars! Its unbelievable,” King Kananji said.

Part Of The Crowd

He added, “What we’ve really enjoyed is the connection people from everywhere are having with this project, at each show we notice that more and more people are telling us how much of an impact it’s making in their lives. That’s been the best part of this whole experience, people connecting with our message.”
