NGO Donates Items Worthy K30 Million To Machinga DHO

An international non-Governmental organization, Heart to Heart Foundation, says cases of drug theft and mismanagement of public health facilities can be curbed if workers develop a spirit of compassion for the common Malawians.

The foundation’s country representative, Boyce Nyirenda, made the remarks when the organization handed over drugs and other supplies worth K30 million to Machinga district hospital.

Nyirenda said: “Compassion has been the missing ingredient to most health professionals and this is deterring health service interventions, a development which results into unnecessary deaths of people.”

He further said, it is pathetic that cases of drug theft in hospitals continues to rise and this is an indication that some public workers do not care about their fellow Malawians who are losing lives due to lack of drugs and other services.

Acting deputy director responsible for pharmaceuticals in the ministry of health and population services, Charles Chimenya, commended Heart to Heart foundation for the timely gesture.

He further emphasized that government is putting all measures in place to deal with cases of mismanagement of public resources.

The donation, which has been made through Water Sanitation and Hygiene project, will benefit 21 rural health centers in the district.

The project which will run up to 2021, is being funded by Korean government through Korea International Cooperation Agency.
