Malawi Congress Party (MCP) lawmaker for Lilongwe Mpenu, Eisenhower Mkaka has obtained an injunction against confirmation of Duncan Mwapasa as Inspector General (IG) of the Malawi Police Service.
The development comes barely hours after the Parliament deferred Mwapasa’s confirmation on Monday over protest from opposition MPs who argued that Mwapasa cannot be confirmed as IG while Rodney Jose is still an IG.
Speaker Gotani Hara suspended proceeding on the matter yesterday to seek legal interpretation on the matter and is expected to deliver her ruling today.
As the MPs are awaiting for the Speaker’s ruling, Mkaka has obtained a court injunction on the mater.
According to the injunction, the legislator wants the court to interpret whether Parliament can confirm another IG when Rodney Jose is holding the same position.
