ZIMBABWE – Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reported to have banned his wife, Mary Chiwenga from visiting him in hospital amidst reports that he was poisoned.

Chiwenga is currently in China where he is receiving medical attention. He is said to have sacked his security details and ordered Mary not to visit him again as he fears some were leaking information about his health to his political opponents.

According to the Zimbabwe Independent Vice President Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga who is currently hospitalized in China over blocked oesophagus has fired CIO operatives from his security team to only remain with two security aides from the military.

Chiwenga believes the aides were leaking information to his political rivals who also includes Mnangagwa.

Chiwenga and Mnangagwa were close allies but are reportedly believed to have fallen out over Mnangagwa’s bid to contest elections in 2023. Chiwenga who was the general when the military ousted Mugabe in November 2017.
Mnangagwa who had been fired two earlier came back from exile to take over as the president of Zimbabwe.
Speaking to Zim Live, an unnamed close friend to the family said that Chiwenga did not trust even his wife.

Mary legally married Chiwenga during a secret ceremony in June, just days before the former army general, who has been battling ill-health for over a year, relapsed and was flown to South Africa before being transferred to China.

But family friends say the marriage is on the rocks. Chiwenga has told his Chinese hosts not to issue a visa to the former model.

“It should be understood that very little is coming out from China. It however appears that the decision to limit the information that is shared, and restricting the number of people who can see him, was taken in consultation with Chinese authorities.

“One can only imagine this is linked to suspicions of poisoning. Until the source of the poison is established, access to him will be very limited, and it appears even his wife – for now at least – is not trusted. When you are gravely ill, it’s a natural expectation that your spouse should be around, but not so in this case and that’s not normal.” Source said.
