United Transformation Movement (UTM) has condemned the gruesome murder of a law enforcer at Msundwe in the capital Lilongwe.
On Tuesday, angry communities blocked the Lilongwe-Mchinji road to block people planning to attend President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s rally at Kawale.
The situation went out of hand following police intervention as they fired teargas to disperse the angry communities. This resulted to running battles between the Police and the angry community leading to the death of Usumani Imedi.
In a statement released today, UTM spokesperson Joseph Chidanti Malunga said the party is deeply shocked with the current political impasse.
“We, in UTM, have said before that barbarism has no place in an open and democratic society and cannot be supported in any way. As Malawians, we must never turn against each other on account of our political differences let alone attack law enforcement officers,” said Malunga.
