As several Malawians were busy celebrating Mothers’ day with their mothers in different places, the story was different with Temwa Chilenga, a primary school teacher at Chambu Primary School in the capital Lilongwe.

Chilenga, who clocked 24 this year, took the Mothers’ day celebrations to orphans in remote area in Ndodani village.

The primary school teacher prepared food for the orphans and bought them some assorted items such as juices, milk and others.

Speaking to Faceofmalawi reporter after the celebration, Chilenga said she decided to celebrate the day with the orphans after seeing some the challenges the Children face.

“I just felt like doing so because having no mother is so painful and I wanted them to know that they’re loved just like the other children. I didn’t want them to feel sorry that they have no mothers,” said Chilenga while smiling.

The Children also had a chance of watching a movie for the first time on Laptop.

Apart from celebrating with the orphans, Chilenga also donated various items such as bread, soap, clothes and soya pieces to the widows.

In Malawi Mothers’ Day is commemorated on October 15 every year. The day was initially set aside by founding President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda on October 17 and it was later celebrated on second Monday of October.

But former President Professor Bingu wa Mutharika changed the day to October 15.
