Angry mob kills cattle rustler in Dowa

An angry mob in Dowa has murdered a suspected cattle rustler in the wee hours of Saturday October 26 2019.

The incident happened at Mitembo Village in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Mkukula in the district.

According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Sub Inspector, Gladson M’bumpha, Amon Phiri from Mitembo village discovered that unknown criminals have opened his cattle kraal and went out with one big bull.

Phiri alerted neighbours who made follow up and found the stolen cattle being led away from the village by five unknown criminals who then abandoned it and ran away.

M’bumpha said that villagers managed to arrest one of the suspects being the deceased and were taking him to Dowa police. However on their way to police neighboring villagers snatched the deceased beat him and burnt him using tyres.

The Police after receiving the report about the incident visited the scene and took the body to the Dowa district hospital for post mortem, in which was established that the death was caused due to hemorrhagic shock secondary to burning.

Police have launched a manhunt to arrest suspected mob and answer charges of murder.
