Man kills friend over K100

Police in Mulanje have arrested a 30-year-old man, Enock Namanja, for allegedly killing his friend over K100.

The deceased has been identified as Mayeso Maxwell.

Father of the deceased said that his son and Namanja went to do a piece work where they were were given K1,000. The two went to drink Kachasu beer spending K900 and remained with K100 change which was kept by the deceased.

At about 1900hrs the suspect met Maxwell and demanded the change so that he buys chamba.

Maxwell refused a thing that angered the suspect who took a knife and stabbed his friend on the chest. Maxwell died on the spot .

Following this, an angry mob caught and severely assaulted Namanja who was then taken to Mulanje district hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

Namanja will answer an offence of murder contrary to section 209 of the penal code.

Like the suspect, Namanja hailed from Masaso village, senior chief Mabuka in the district.
