MERA Warns Minibus Drivers Against Keeping Fuel in Vehicles to Avoid Explosion

Minibus drivers have been warned against keeping fuel in their vehicles in Jerri-cans to avoid explosion that can be caused by hot weather.

The warning from energy regulator MERA comes as minibus drivers’ habit of buying fuel in Jerri-cans is now causing a threat due to prevailing extreme hot weather.

Issuing the warning, Chief Executive Officer for MERA Dr Collins Magalasi said minibus drivers and other vehicle users should observe this because the current high temperatures experienced now can result in explosion and cause fire accidents.

In his reaction, Chairperson of Minibus Owners Association of Malawi Felix Mbonekera Msiska says his association does not condone this malpractice for it is risky especially for passenger vehicles.

Mbonekera Msiskia has since said the Minibus Association currently working with road traffic officials to find means of ending this malpractice.
